PHBK Barking Sands Airport (Mana Airport) The runway at Barking Sands was originally called the Southern Cross after a Ford Trimotor, in which the Australian pilot Charles Kingsford started a historic flight. The installation became better known as “Mana Airport” when the U.S. Army acquired the area in 1940. Barking Sands experienced very heavy military traffic during World War II. The airport was called Mana Airfield Military Reservation, Kekaha Military Reservation, Barking Sands Airfield, Bonham Airfield, Bonham Air Base, and Auxiliary Landing Field (ALF) Bonham then. Anyway, Barking Sands became the primary commercial airport on the island of Kauai during and after World War II until 1949 when Lihue Airport opened. In 1954 the name was officially changed to Bonham Air Force Base. In 1968, the Command Headquarters of Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), Hawaiian Area, was established at Barking Sands. The scenery package includes detailed information (about the name- giving legend), the airport with many individual buildings and PAPI and HIRL along the runway. Three Aerocaches can be explored: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kekaha and Kawaiele Waterbird Sanctuary, southeast of the airport along Highway 50. And don't miss the wonderful cottages near the airport! Most objects are included in the package. What you need additionally: OpenSceneryX R2_Library Am Strand von Barking Sands wird seit 1921 geflogen, seine größte Bedeutung hatte der rasch wachsende Flugplatz mit seinem seltsamen Namen (über den es eine Legende gibt) im 2. Weltkrieg.
